Caring for a loved one can be a huge challenge, often leaving caregivers overwhelmed and in need of respite. Recognizing this reality, Siaana Tech, under the direction of its founder Alexandra Sabin, launched ANAAIS, an innovative project that offers flexible, reliable and safe support to caregivers. This innovative project was recently presented during an interview on Quebec AM by CBC Listen, animated by Julia Caron.
One local solution for a universal need
ANAAIS, acronym for “Let's help our seniors and caregivers with the social internet”, is based on an application that connects caregivers with torchbearers — trustworthy, trained people ready to take over for a few hours. The application meets immediate and unpredictable needs, offering respite upon request.
During the interview, Alexandra Sabin emphasized the importance of flexibility :
“When a caregiver feels overwhelmed on a Saturday morning, they should be able to take a break almost immediately, without waiting several days. ANAAIS offers this solution, with real-time responsiveness, bringing peace of mind when it is most needed.”
This project, currently in pilot phase in the region of Coaticook, promotes a local approach where community relays meet the needs of caregivers in the region. This not only builds trust but also community ties.
Trust, collaboration and innovation at the heart of the project
What sets Anaïs apart is her focus on trust and quality control. In partnership with Home help from the MRC de Coaticook and the research team of Sherbrooke University, directed by professor Véronique Provencher, the project combines community expertise and academic innovation. Sabin said:
“Supporting vulnerable people requires a solid foundation of trust and collaboration. By working with established organizations, we ensure that caregivers feel safe and supported.”
The torchbearers, carefully selected through safety surveys and interviews, undergo specialized training to ensure a high quality service. This process ensures that caregivers and their loved ones receive support that is tailored to their needs.
Promising beginnings and huge potential
Although the project is still in the pilot phase, it has already generated enthusiasm and hope. Students, local beneficiary workers and even seniors welcomed this initiative with interest, seduced by the flexibility and positive impact it offers. Caregivers, for their part, say they are relieved to finally have a solution that meets their unexpected and urgent needs.
One of the long-term goals of the project is to create a sustainable community of compassionate relays, paid fairly for their work. In this sense, ANAAIS aims not only to reduce caregiver burnout, but also to help elderly people or people with loss of autonomy stay at home as long as possible.
” Flexibility, reliability, and safety are at the heart of the service we build, and we truly hope to make a difference in the lives of caregivers and their loved ones. ” Sabin added.
A vision of expansion
In the future, the ANAAIS team plans to extend this model to other regions, building on the results of the pilot project to improve service. This approach, which combines cutting-edge technology and community collaboration, could transform support for caregivers beyond the borders of the Coaticook region.

With the official launch expected by the end of the year, interested carers and relays are invited to participate now.
